Why do birds poop on my car?

I tried to drive my car today but it had bird poop on the bonnet so I had to take the bus to work. How can I prevent my car from not being used as a toilet for birds? Can I spray it with something to make the poop just slide off? Or can you buy great big tents that are like camping tents, but for cars?
