I have two images in jpg. They are both squares, and the exact same size.?

I would like to create a checker pattern with these two images for the wallpaper of my new website. After they have been made into a checker pattern, I would like to put them at a 45 degree angle. I don't have photoshop. Can anyone explain to me how to make this? I would appreciate it so much!
